We use telescopes to see what is far away, to see in the vastness of space. We hope to discover something new.
We also use microscopes to see the tiniest things on earth, with the hope to see or discover something that has not been seen before.
Yet here we are, in search for something new and amazing, but we fail to see the beauty that is before our very eyes–that which is here and now. We, for whatever reason are unable to see Gods amazing creation right in front of us. Everything that is here on this planet was created for our enjoyment, but we fail to recognize it.
Instead we abuse and destroy this very planet and everything on it; usually out of greed or hatred.
God gave us this planet to look after and to enjoy. Not to abuse and destroy.
Genesis 1: 20-31
20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
This planet, and everything on it is amazing, everything from plants to animals; from deserts to lush green forests and the arctic and Antarctic, as well as the lakes, rivers and oceans.
We also have a tremendous amount of people and cultures that we can learn from. But instead we look at the differences in a negative way and bring harm to them. We look at what is beneath the soil and strip it bare due to greed.
It is time that we respect and cherish this planet and those that inhabit it. After all, it is God’s; yes He gave it to us to use, but He did not give it to us to abuse.
Let’s wake up to the damage that we have done and learn how we are supposed to live.
Respect of Gods creations can heal this planet and us.
Alright folks, here is my thought for this day. Let’s put aside the corrupt governments, churches and people in general. Let’s put aside the economic turmoil and the stupid wars. Let us put aside all the negative stuff that is going on in the world today—and let’s focus on what really matters—humans and their salvation.
We all know about the negative that is in the world today, and we focus on it daily, sometimes we even dream it when we sleep.
What can we, or better yet, should we do about it? We should be focusing on Jesus, for He is the only one that can do anything about…well, anything.
When troubles come and your heart is burdened, then cast your burdens unto Him and He will help.
New King James Version (NKJV)
30 When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice 31 (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.
The Lord is your Sheppard; He will protect you and provide for you.
New King James Version (NKJV)
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Our focus ought to always be on Jesus, not on the things of this earth. He needs to be number one on our minds. Nothing else matters other than Jesus.
New International Version (NIV)
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
So focus on Jesus and not on the things that are on earth, they do not matter, all this will pass away but the Lord and His words will not. Some day we will be called home and everything that we endured here on earth will be gone.
So let us not worry about them, let us instead praise the Lord for all He has don, is doing and will do.
However, while we are still here on earth, it is still our duty to spread the word of God and to stand up for His word and fight for what is right.
There is much work still to be done. Go out into this world, preach His word.
New King James Version (NKJV)
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
New King James Version (NKJV)
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
In this day and age; the age of violence, needless wars, self-gratification, greed, godlessness. This, the age of sin, there is no love. Not real love, but instead the only love that truly manifests in everyday life, the love that tops the list is the unGodly, unholy love of money. That is the love that seems to be the driving force behind politicians and the acts and bills that they sign into existence. It is the love that drives most people.
There is a love that we must remember, a love that is true love and holy love. This love is from the Father, the one true God. He created all things, including you. So if God commands us to love and to show love to others as He shows us, then that is a good love, pure and holy.
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
These verses teach us what real love is.
We are told to take this love and behave toward everyone in such a manner.
Mark 12:31 (NIV)
… ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
Luke 6:35 (NIV)
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
Can you imagine a world that followed these commandments? We would not be living in a world that invades countries out of greed or hatred. We would live in a world where we all get along, share our resources and care for one another. We would be helping the drought stricken nation of Africa where famine and pestilence is killing people. We would give freely of our medications instead of charging ridiculously high prices. I could go on.
Do we not expect help if or when we need it? So then why do we not help others when they need it?
Luke 6:31 (NIV)
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Love is everything, without it we have nothing…nothing but a life of sin and misery. We have a world where people only see themselves and within their own needs and desires, nothing else.
Romans 12:9 (NIV)
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
Romans 13:10 (NIV)
Love does no harm to its neighbour. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Here are some more scriptures on Love:
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Ephesians 4:2 (NIV)
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 John 4:7 (NIV)
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
We must always remember to love others as God loves us.

Be ready and prepare yourselves for we are in the end days
What more do we need to see before we realize that we are in the end days.
I am not talking about December 12, 2012. I am talking about the end days as written in the Bible.
We can see by the events that are occurring on a daily basis that we indeed have been given many signs that we definitely do not have much time left.
God has been gracious and very patient with us, but a time will come when He will no longer allow mankind to go about his own business. The evil ways of man will be his destruction.
We do not know the exact hour when this will happen, but we are given signs. We need to open our eyes and accept that fact.
New International Version
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
New International Version
42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
Many of the things; maybe all the things that are written are happening now. The bible is the undeniable word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
New International Version
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The verses that continually come up are these, from Matthew 24: 37-39 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.There were many parties, merry-making, people were doing whatever they wanted, not giving God even a second of thought. They were facing death, and none were aware, all because self-gratification, pleasure of the flesh was all they were focused on.
We can see that everything written in the Bible is happening. Nothing is left out, everything that we were warned about is indeed happening now. Yet there are those who can not see it, refuse to accept it or making excuses as to why it is happening and some are merely brushing it off as being hype. There are many also who believe that humans are Gods, and they make their own destiny.
Read the next verses and you can see that the Bible is the word of God and has shown us what today is like, and we were warned over two-thousand years ago.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
New International Version
1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
We are indeed equipped for a day such as this, God has given His weapon which is His word. He has given us His Son, who will go before us and with us into battle. We need to trust Him and place our life in His hand.
New International Version
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Remember that through Jesus, we can overcome all things. For He has given us the authority.
New International Version
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
If you have not done so, give your life to Jesus. Allow Him to take charge of your life and bring you to full salvation. Heaven and hell are real, Jesus wants you to live with Him in eternity. He can and He will heal you, comfort you and save you, if you let Him.
New International Version
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
New International Version
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Prepare yourself, be ever watchful, trust in the Lord, Jesus is real and is coming back—soon.
I will end with this: Matthew 25 New International Version
The Parable of the Ten Virgins
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ 9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Since the creation of mankind, we have been given chance after chance; opportunity after opportunity to do the right thing, to make the right choice, to transform our bad behaviour into good behaviour.
Like it says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
But do we take the God-given opportunity and turn from our evil ways? No we do not, we continue on our chosen path of destruction, the path that harms others, our planet and inevitably ourselves.
Why do we live a life of self-destruction? Why do we continue to live this way? We see what it does, we know that we are hurting our environment, our neighbours, family friends and so on, we know we are hurting ourselves. Why do we do it?
I believe that it is based on the idea of pleasing one self and greed. Doing whatever one wants, as long as it brings self-gratification in that moment and/or riches as well.
In the following scriptures we read 1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
A greedy man stirs up strife, but the one who trusts in the Lord will be enriched.
Here we can easily see why the downfall of modern politics have taken place. Over the past decade we have seen the invasions of two countries due to the lust for oil of another nation and we see the beginnings of more wars for the same reason. The lust that a nation has for another nations resources is what is causing such heartache, pain and misery.
Politicians are turning their backs on their countries forefathers and more importantly turning their backs on God and without morals will send their children to die on other nations soil so that they can rape the land of its riches and line their own pockets.
Satan is at the root of all this sin, he was there in the garden where he lied and convinced Adam and Eve that it would be ok to eat from the tree. He lied, twisting Gods words and offering Eve something that he knew she could not resist. Her greed caused her to sin.
Genesis 3:44 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Many live the way as I have written, and we know living in such a way will lead to death, physical and spiritually. It says in Galatians 5:19-2119 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
So we clearly know that we must abstain from these things.
Whether we are aware or not, even if we try to live holy lives, there are people sent to lead us astray. We must constantly watch. We must watch out for ourselves as well as for our brothers and sisters. Jude 1:4For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
We must always check ourselves, our motives and our desires. Colossians 3:5Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
This world is in trouble, there will be multitudes who will spiritually die. We are in the end times, we can see it. The days of Noah are upon us. No one will know the exact day or time, that is why we must be ready. But as it was before the flood, so it is now. Mathew 24: 36-44 36 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
42“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
For you who are not followers of Christ; whether you were once and have walked away or if you never were, you have hope.
1 John 1:9“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
and again in 2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
These things that are happening and the things are are going to happen are all supposed to happen. They are written in the Bible, God knew when He created us that it would turn out this way. But that does not mean that we throw in the towel and give up. It does not mean that we invade others, killing the people and steal their resources. We are still to live according to Gods word, to love one another.
I will finish with this from Mark 12:28-31
The Greatest Commandment
28One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Food, we all need it to live, to survive. However, most people in these days of financial breakdown in the United States and in Europe are struggling to make ends meet. Canada is one of the most stable and powerful nations in the world with the most stable economies next to China. Nonetheless there are many people who struggle to put healthy food on their plates as the great divide, the gap between the haves and have not’s is widening here in Canada as well.
When I receive the sales flyers I go through them and plan my grocery shopping accordingly, but I see sales that are not sales. The prices are ridiculous!
I hear members of our government and doctors as well as teachers and health advocates preach about the state of our nations health, such as the obesity rates, rate in the increase in diabetes etc. and yet nothing is done about the cost of healthy food.
I find it ridiculous to be paying $4.37 for four litres of milk when the dairy farm is right here in our area. That price is the lowest; other brands are higher in cost. The price of low cost bread is around $1.97 a loaf. These prices are completely unjust as far as I and others are concerned.
The cost of fruit and vegetables are even worse compared to unhealthy foods.
So what do people do if they only have a limited amount of money? They will go for products that go farther on their dollar; which are the unhealthy foods.
I am someone who is a strong believer in healthy eating; I push for vegetables, fruit, whole grain breads etc. I don’t buy pop, chips or the like. But there are many who cannot afford to buy the right kind of food.
I have gone through the flyers and the various stores in my community and seen the prices, I have also seen people who are very over weight and glanced into their shopping carts, which had low cost unhealthy processed garbage in them.
A couple with children were going through an isle, “Can we have salad today?” one member of the family asked, “No, it is too expensive.” The other replied. That is sad.
One can argue and say that one should not put a price on health, which is true. But when the argument is about having food in ones stomach for the entire month VS having healthy food for only half the month then what do you think they will go for?
When one adds all expenses such as heat, hydro, rent, groceries, clothing etc. well the dollar doesn’t go very far.
I am a firm believer in action, in the people of the country standing up and saying, “Enough is enough!” The government which we have elected needs to start working for us and regulating the cost of the products which we consume. If we want a nation which is strong and healthy then we need to lower the cost of healthy and nutritious food and raise the cost and tax on the unhealthy and fast foods.
People in power who complain about people’s health and the rate at which our health care costs are rising due to an unhealthy population and do nothing are hypocrites. If we were to have low cost or affordable healthy food for the population then the strain on our health care would eventually be reduced. One other thing, which should happen, is the cost of entering and playing sports needs to be cut as well. Exercise is crucial as well. There are many people (Children and adults) who would love to take part in sports but who can’t afford it. But that is another topic for a later time.
So here we have it; if our government really wants our citizens to eat healthy and be healthy and if they want to lessen the strain on our health care system then they WOULD do everything in their power to lower the cost on healthy foods.
For when the healthy foods are more affordable than the unhealthy foods, that is when the population will reach for and consume the healthy VS the unhealthy, that is when we WILL see the citizens of this nation become healthy and we WILL see the strain on our health care systems reduced—over time.
We will have a population that is healthier, more energetic and happier!
Points on how a government can reduce the cost of healthy foods:
- Increase taxes on fast food purchased from fast food restaurants (fast food is not a necessity)
- Increase taxes on junk food (chocolate bars, chips, pop etc.)
- Increase taxes on tobacco and tobacco products
- Increase taxes on alcohol
- Take the extra taxes now and give the money to farmers so that they can lower the cost of their produce.
- Allow and encourage farmers to sell their products (i.e. eggs, milk, meats, fruit, vegetables) directly from their farms. This will cut the costs of the products as there will not be a shipping cost added and no middle man and/or a store mark-up.
- And remember to buy local and plant a garden, no matter how small if possible. Even a few pots with vegetable plants in them set on a balcony make a difference.
- Also write your member of Parliament letting them know that you want him/her to take action and to voice your complaint to parliament, they are supposed to be the voice of the people. You may even send them this blog.

Uncommon sense means a rare, different and beautiful form of thought and understanding.
To have commonsense is to have the same sense as the majority of the population where you live. To think and believe that what is normal is what the majority of the people around you think, do and behave like. Not to think outside the box.
I believe that uncommon sense; however, is the way to go, to think for ones self, to question the media and not believe what the mass media is telling us. Think outside the box, and by all means, think for yourself.
When we look at the history of humanity, we see that people for hundreds of years, if not thousands, have done what the masses have done and behaved in the same way. This is why we have repeated the same mistakes, wars over land and resources have been fought repeatedly, thus having killed hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children, and destroyed and polluted an immeasurable amount of land and oceans.
We see this today, the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq are no different from any invasion of one country by another in the past, which can be summed up in one word—greed!
I am looking at humanity now with uncommon sense; I look at it from an outside-of-the-box point of view. Why would I believe what the Governments of the world and the mass media tell me? I, as a human being have the right and freedom to question everything and think for myself.
If we want to prevent wars, oil spills and mining disasters as well as the continuation of mass deaths due to starvation and disease, then we need to have uncommon sense and not follow the masses, otherwise we will make the same mistakes which we have been making for hundreds of years.
Commonsense is not always sensible and it most certainly is not always intelligent thought. So let us open our minds and allow freethinking, so what if we come across somewhat eccentric?
Is eccentricity abnormal? Or is it normal and the rest of the population is abnormal? Where would we be without eccentric people? Without people who are using uncommon sense? People like Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, Alexander Graham Bell to name only a fraction of people who did not think as common man did. These people thought for themselves and made changes to humanity, which we would not have if they followed the crowds.
It is time to raise up a culture of uncommon sense, a population which do not let others do the thinking for them. Let us be the new thinkers of this era and teach others to become and do the same. Use Uncommon Sense!

What is time? Does it exist? Is it what we perceive it to be? “What is it?”
The night moves into day, the days become weeks and before we know it years have passed us by.
A life begins at birth and ends at death. Is the space in-between it …time?
We have clocks, we have the sun and moon, we have seasons and yet no one can really explain it.
We humans have created it, we have lived our lives by it and we are controlled by it.
But is time a part of Creation? Is there another form of time other than what we live by?
2 Peter 3:8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. (Bible)
So if this thing called time was not a part of creation as we have been made to understand it, then why do we allow “time” to control every aspect of our lives?
Why do we live by this man-made creation of the 24-hour clock?
The clock was created to simplify our lives, but instead we have become slaves to it.
Do we really need to let it control us? Considering there is “Never enough time in a day”. Have you heard someone say this? Have you yourself spoken them? I will admit that I have.
So if we never have enough time, then can we not create and give ourselves more it?
I don’t believe that we are created to live so strictly by the control time. We are just supposed to live and to live each day to the fullest.
To enjoy ourselves, to love and be loved and to do the best we can for ourselves and for everyone around us who share this planet with us.
John Ellis McTaggart (3 September, 1866 – 18 January, 1925) and many other philosophers have proposed that the passage of time is an illusion suggesting that only the present is real. (http://www.timephysics.com/) So the present as we know, is the immediate that an individual is in, and it is different from person to person because we all perceive things differently.
So if we believe that time does not exist, and that it is merely an illusion created by man to control our lives, and that it is different for each individual. And if we know that it is only what we perceive it to be, and that in the end it is an illusion nonetheless because we all have different amounts of it on this planet.
Then we must know and understand that we ought not let it control us, but that we must instead take control of our life and live it to the best of our ability, because there really isn’t enough of it in our lifetime to waste.
Charles Richards said, “Don’t be fooled by the calendar.
There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week’s value out of a year while another man gets a full year’s value out of a week” and Charles Darwin once said, “A man who dares to waste one hour of life has not discovered the value of life”. I don’t agree with Darwin on most of his ideas, however in this quote I believe he is right.
Now that being said, King Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a time for everything. What is he talking about? Is he talking about a moment on the clock or simply a moment in ones life? Or does it really matter. Perhaps we ought not be so focused on “Time” but rather on our lives and what we do with it. As we all know, life moves forward and never back. What is done is done, as the saying goes: “We can not turn back time”. This goes for the man made thing called time and it also goes for life itself, so: “Hurry up and live; the clock is ticking—ahead! With or without you!”

What does it mean to converse or to have a conversation?
In my opinion to have a conversation means to have a dialogue between two or more people in a manner which is respectful to all parties involved. This simply means to give each person the respect to allow them to speak; to allow them to say what they need or want to say without being interrupted.
To be able to have a conversation is an art; a lost art. Today people seem to be unable to hold meaningful conversations with one another. It seems that everyone has a lot to say but are unable to convey their opinion or thought in a proper well thought out and meaningful manner. Also, the person who is trying to speak is cut off or interrupted as the other party involved will try to get his or her opinion across before the other person is finished speaking.
When a person interrupts another it comes across as if the one doing the interrupting has little or no respect or value for that individual. It feels as if what the person has to say is of little or no relevance to the other or lacks any importance. It is a rude and disrespectful thing to do.
Does this mean that we have all become self-absorbed? Not necessarily, we have simply lost the art of conversation. We are not taught to speak anymore. We have become far too reliant on electronics to get our points across. We live in the electronic age where texting, keyboarding and the internet have become the main means of communicating instead of verbal communication.
I firmly believe that we need to teach communication, not just written, but also verbal. In order for upcoming generations to become successful human beings in a competitively growing society we need to teach them the art of verbal communication. How would it look for a young person entering the workforce to have all the electronic communication skills but no verbal communication skills? He is able to write documents and make excellent electronic media but is unable to get his point across verbally to other board members? How far would he get in his career?
How do we change this? First and foremost we must teach self-awareness. A person has to learn to be self-aware, this means that he/she learn his/her likes and dislikes, their strengths and weaknesses and how he or she wants others to speak to them. Once this foundation is laid, one can then begin to build on language, learn how to say things, what needs to be said–and what doesn’t. After all, just because you have something to say doesn’t mean you have to say it.
The next is to learn the attitude of speech. With what attitude are you speaking? What is the attitude behind your words? And why do you have that particular attitude? Does your attitude match your words? Another important aspect to the art of conversation is the volume of your voice, some people have naturally loud voices, so when they get into a debate or argument their voices become even louder. Even though they do not mean to yell, they are. Thus the argument becomes more heated and out of control as the other person will feel attacked. This is where your self-awareness comes into play. You need to know and understand the volume, tone and the attitude behind the words which you are speaking.
Once you have an understanding of yourself you then need to practice communicating. Take little steps. First speak to yourself, and listen to what your words sound like, maybe you can record yourself and play it back. Second, speak to a person, but before you do you must prepare your mind, tell yourself to pay attention. Then when speaking to the other person listen to his or her words, and when it is your turn speak, listen to what you are saying, pay close attention to your words, tone of voice, attitude with how you are conveying the information and the volume of your voice, also think of whether or not you need to say certain things. Perhaps you can or should leave certain things out.
This is the beginning of learning the art of communication. This takes practice, it is learned through repetition. Once you have mastered this you will become more confident and a more productive member of society and you may also get the job or promotion which you have longed for, for quite some time.
Now you have the foundation of the art of communication. Practice it and learn it, it is good for you and those around you.
